Our Innovative Approach
Skoolie Foundation is dedicated to creating positive change by addressing the diverse needs of our most needy neighbors. Our purpose is manifested through impactful programs, including the Mobile Shelter Initiative, providing secure temporary homes for those in need, the Skoolie Hygiene Haven, offering showers and haircuts to the homeless and vulnerable; and the Women's Empowerment Center which supports small woman-owned businesses in Olympia.
We provide clothing and furniture to individuals and families just moving into housing through a voucher program at our two thrift stores in Olympia and Puyallup. We provide free food assistance called "bags of hope" as part of every program and in our outreach program. We also provide free cell phones to low-income people who qualify.
Embracing inclusivity, we prioritize the well-being of women, children, the LGBTQ community, and our veterans, ensuring that every individual finds a welcoming and supportive space within our initiatives.
Skoolie Foundation envisions a future where compassion knows no bounds, and everyone, regardless of background, experiences a sense of belonging and empowerment.
Our Impact in 2025 was Significant
Our Hygiene Havens Program Gives Dignity and Hope
From 9 to 1 every Thursday, our HOPE Shower Trailer sets up at the Union Gospel Mission in Olympia. Guests sign in, get a private stall with hot water, and can pick up clean clothes and fresh socks on the way out. For some, it’s the first shower in weeks.
This program has helped individuals get ready for successful job interviews on several occasions in the past. We have families with small children who open up to the world when they get a hot shower!
We also provide Haircuts for Hope at Skoolie events for the houseless and for school kids in need as a partnership with JC Penny.
Our Shelter Bus Program and NOAH Bus Create Shelter
Our Mobile Shelter Initiative stands as a cornerstone in our commitment to addressing homelessness. Through the conversion of skoolies into mobile shelters, we provide a secure and welcoming home for those in need. This program goes beyond shelter; it's about restoring a sense of belonging and stability to individuals facing housing challenges.
The NOAH Bus (No One Abandoned Here) is an extension of this program being built to provide temporary shelter during weather emergencies. It will provide a warm, lit, safe place to sit out a night that would otherwise be dangerous.
Our Bags of Hope Program Gives Food to the Hungry
Skoolie Bags of Hope are care packages of shelf-stable groceries and essentials, distributed with local food banks, churches, and community partners. These are put together every week by volunteers from local businesses, NGOs and Rotary Clubs. This program combines with the distribution of precooked food received from out partners to share with people in need.
