Sometimes, the most powerful thing you can offer a family is a place where they belong.

Imagine sitting down with a warm cup of coffee, surrounded by people who understand. You don’t have to explain every detail of your journey. You don’t have to pretend everything is okay. You can ask questions, share your worries, celebrate the little victories, and know that someone at the table truly gets it.

That is what the Helping Parent Program is all about.

When a family learns that their child has a disability, developmental delay, or special healthcare need, their world can change overnight. Suddenly, they may be navigating unfamiliar systems, making difficult decisions, searching for resources, and wondering what the future will hold. They may feel overwhelmed, isolated, or unsure where to turn.

No family should have to navigate that journey alone.

Through the Helping Parent Program at South Sound Parent to Parent, we bring families together, connect them with experienced parent mentors, and create opportunities to learn, grow, and build lasting friendships. Through our specialized programs and groups, every family member can find their own blend of connection, understanding, and support.  The perfect cup to help them thrive.

• Mom to Mom & Dad to Dad: Connecting parents with others who understand the joys, challenges, and unexpected turns of raising a child with additional needs. Sometimes, talking to someone who has walked a similar path makes all the difference.

• Sib Shops: Giving brothers and sisters a place to connect with peers who understand what it can be like to have a sibling with special needs. Through fun, friendship, and shared experiences, siblings learn that their voices and feelings matter, too.

• Holland Training: Equipping parents and professionals with tools and understanding to better support families as they navigate the emotional journey of raising a child with special needs.

• Family Events: Creating opportunities for families to laugh, play, make memories, and build friendships in welcoming, inclusive spaces where everyone is invited to be themselves.

• Brick-to-Brick: A fun, supportive group where kids build with LEGO® bricks while developing social-emotional skills, building friendships, and learning together.  One brick at a time!

• Family Education: Helping parents build knowledge, confidence, and practical skills so they can advocate for their children, navigate complex systems, and make informed decisions.

• DDA Township: Helping families connect with information, resources, and support related to the Developmental Disabilities Administration and the services available to them.

• Transition Support: Walking alongside families as their children grow and move into new stages of life, helping them prepare for changes, explore options, and navigate the path toward adulthood.
