Since Give Local began, sponsors and the Community Foundation have worked together to cover credit card and transaction fees for Give Local, ensuring 100% of donations reach nonprofits. With rising costs, we now invite donors to help cover these at checkout. Last year, these fees totaled about $39,000. Covering this cost is what makes Give Local possible and turns it into a true celebration of generosity. In 2024, 88% of donors opted to cover the fee, helping support Give Local and making sure that nonprofits receive the full value of their intended donations.
The total fee when you choose to cover is 6.9% + $0.30. This consists of:
For donations over $50, the website will give you the option of submitting payment through your bank account (ACH). This could save you on the credit card transaction fees. For donors who give via their bank account, credit card processing fees will be replaced by a 1% transaction fee, plus a $1.50 fixed fee per transaction (total ACH processing fees will be capped at $5.00). The platform fee will still apply.
You'll have the option to cover credit card and transaction fees during online checkout. If you choose not to cover these fees, the costs will be fully covered by Give Local sponsors and the Community Foundation—never by the nonprofit.
