Our Mission: POWER is an organization of low-income parents and allies advocating for a strong social safety net while working toward a world where children and care giving are truly valued, and the devastation of poverty has been eradicated.

The need we meet in our community is to serve as a space for low income parents and other unpaid caregivers such as Aunties and Grandparents, to learn their rights at the welfare office, at the polls, and beyond.

Our leadership model honors children and caregiving. Members develop leadership skills that are empowering and they take that feeling with them when they leave our rooms.  When children see their parents grow in confidence and have the support of a community they learn from it and are also empowered.

There are few anti-poverty organizations that recognize the specific needs of low income parents and caregivers, thus their voices are left out of most community organizing work. Finding a place where caregivers can work, where their children are welcome, and where childcare needs are considered, allows them to develop leadership skills. Systemic change is seen in the ways this has a ripple effect to the next generation.
