Pacific Education Institute (PEI) has been connecting K-12 educators and community partners through training and resources for outdoor education since 2003. Our model is aligned with state education standards and incorporates collaboration with locally based community partners.
FieldSTEM is our educational framework, designed to help educators meet state education standards in science, math, and English Language Arts (ELA), social studies including Since Time Immemorial, economics, and civics while providing opportunities for community-based science grounded in local ecosystems. We provide workshops and ongoing, customized support for teachers, schools, and districts.
PEI also offers Climate Science workshops for educators that explore solutions to climate change through topics such as wetlands, forest carbon sequestration, wildfires, coastal hazards, solar energy, and food waste. These solutions-oriented workshops strongly emphasize Indigenous knowledge and perspectives on climate issues.
In 2021 we launched Youth Engaged in Sustainable Systems (YESS) and have continued to build pathways to green jobs by creating statewide career and technical education (CTE) frameworks for restoration ecology, forest management, aquaculture and fisheries, urban and community forestry, and environmental education.
