Help Deliver a Month of Magic: One Book at a Time!

Every month, thousands of children in Thurston and Mason Counties run to the mailbox to find a brand-new book — their very own — through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. These moments of excitement ignite a love of reading, strengthen family bonds, and build the early literacy skills that prepare children for kindergarten and lifelong success.

This Give Local, we’re rallying our community to fund one full month of books and mailings for every child enrolled in the Imagination Library across Thurston and Mason Counties — that's more than 6,800 kiddos!

• $1.16 mails a book directly to a child’s doorstep (after a match of 50% by WA OSPI)

• $15 covers a full year of reading joy for one child.

• $7,888 funds one month for every enrolled child in our region.

Your gift helps ensure that every child, no matter their zip code, starts kindergarten ready to learn and ready to thrive.

In Thurston County, the percentage of children entering kindergarten Kindergarten Ready rose from 45% in 2023–24 to 50% in 2024–25, while Literacy Ready rates increased from 75% to 77% during the same period. In Mason County, Kindergarten Readiness improved from 41% to 43%, and Literacy Readiness grew from 66% to 69%.

This upward trend mirrors the expansion of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library across our communities, showing how something as simple as a steady stream of books can make a measurable difference in early learning.
